Community Corner

The feedback from everyone over the past week has been amazing since the launch of the Community Corner. Lots of tweets of support and I've also had a number of new names added to my list of contributors. It was amazing to get the seal of approval from @thechiefunicorn himself!

How long have you been using Umbraco?
June 2017

Twitter handle if you have one:

Introduce yourself to the Umbraco Community.

I've been programming ever since I was 13, so that's 8 years now. I started off in the .NET world at 15 and developed it into a career. I got into Umbraco since I got given a website to build, that used Umbraco, and needed some custom Umbraco functionalities.

Aside from Umbraco and other technologies, I spend my time watching Football, rubbing my kitten's belly, spending time managing my own start-up business whilst building and thinking of new business ideas.

What are you currently doing with Umbraco?
Currently I am building a few different websites using Umbraco, using mainly the native features of Umbraco and not so much of the packages unless necessary. I'm looking at potentially making an open source CRM system for the Umbraco Backoffice but that's in brainstorming stages.

Why are you using Umbraco?
There are so many things you can do with Umbraco and the fact that the possibilities are endless, it excites me to see what I'll be building in the future and what the community members are building too. Oh also, obviously it’s better than WordPress. ;)

When I say 'Umbraco Community' what first comes to mind?

What would you like to see more of in the Umbraco Community?
There's CodeCabin but why not have one for each city created and funded by the community or companies!

If there was one question you'd like to ask the Umbraco Community, what would it be?

If you were to relate yourself to a feature/component of Umbraco, what would it be?

"I'd say, I'm a welcome 'dashboard' - I'm always there to meet and train new Umbraco users, especially the new content editors!" Your turn!

Is there anything you found difficult when you first started using Umbraco?

The possibilities of Umbraco are endless! I raised a question in the Edinburgh Umbraco meetup in July 2018: "What do you use to allow content editors to put content on pages?". Different responses were received.

So, I'd say what to use to put things on pages!! Do I use the grid? Do I use macros with the grid? Grid editors? Nested content? Other packages? What?! This is what I love about Umbraco, you're never wrong with the freedom it gives you!

Anything else you'd like to say?
After joining the Slack community and attending my first Umbraco meetup, I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has helped me recently with Umbraco and to Owain for the creation of Community Corner, it’s certainly amazing to see how people are getting involved with Umbraco!
