Who am I and what do I do for a living?
My name is Corné Hoskam and I am a Software Engineer at iO
Where can you find me on the internet?
If you could interview anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
Oh man, starting out with a tough one! First person that comes to mind is Stephen Hawking. I would have no idea what to ask him, but I've always been crazy about watching and reading about concepts like Black Holes, String Theory and Space-time! I always find them fascinating.
What hobbies do you have?
I'm crazy about TV-Shows (My favorites being The Flash & Dr Who). I'm an avid gamer for the more sandbox/creative type games! (Minecraft, Satisfactory, Dyson Sphere Program, games like that!). I read from time to time, to get some off-screen time, and I'm a lover of craft-beers and whiskeys if that's considered a hobby haha. 😂
What's your favourite book?
The Harry Potter Series
What's your favourite movie?
The HP series, the Fast & the Furious Series, and... any Marvel movie 😄
If you are in to music, what are you currently listening to?
I love Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Johnny Cash! The Classics never wear out!
If you are currently learning something, what is it?
Professionally I'm learning more about Azure, currently preparing myself for the Azure AZ-900 Fundamentals Exam. In my own time I'm using Duolingo to learn a bit of Spanish! Gamification really keeps me disciplined to practice daily.
Do you love working from home or would you rather be in the office? Is there a balance of both that you like best?
To be honest, my preference goes out to working from home, but it's always good to see your coworkers and have a casual coffee-machine chit-chat at least once or twice a week! Makes the whole work-environment a bit less informal, and a bit more social!
Are you an early bird or night owl?
Definitely an early bird! I try to hit the gym at least 3 times a week before going to work, helps me clear my mind and start the day off fresh, but also I know that nothing productive comes out of me after 8PM 😂
What's is your most used emoji?
Coffee or Tea?
Coffee! Black or a Double Espresso, yes please! ☕
What first interested you in using Umbraco CMS?
The flexibility of Umbraco is what got me into using it, but soon after that I found many more reasons to stay, including the Community!
How long have you been using Umbraco CMS?
My first introduction to Umbraco was a bit over 5 years ago, where the last 2.5+ years consist of it being my primary CMS and full-time job occupation.
If you could change one thing in Umbraco, what would it be?
Get rid of AngularJS from the back-office and move to something more recent/up-to-date
Do you use any other CMS? How does it compare to Umbraco CMS?
I have used Sitecore too, which is extremely powerful, but because of that also extremely heavy (and pricey!), whereas Umbraco is extremely light-weight, versitile and open-source.
What packages do you use regularly?
uSync & Forms would be the two most used ones! I've also used Vendr, uMarketingSuite, Translation Manager, and Nexu just to name a few!
Do you build packages? If so, which ones?
Not yet! Who knows what the future may bring.
Have you been to any Umbraco meetups?
Virtually I've been at the meetups for Edinburgh, London, and Belgium. Still waiting for the next Dutch meetup! (And of course non-virtual meetups!)
Have you spoken about Umbraco at any events? What did you talk about?
Last year in December I've had the opportunity to talk at DF21 about Blazor & Umbraco 9, which was my first talk ever at a Tech Event! If it's up to me it won't be the last time either! 😄
If you could meet anyone from the Umbraco Community, who would it be? You can choose more than one.
I won't share any preferences hehe! Just hoping to meet many of you in person someday! 😊
Feel free to add any other details
Another tough one! I feel like I've already said most interesting things about myself haha, either on this form or on January's uProfile of this year, so in fear of repeating myself I'll just link that to you! If anyone in the community ever wants to have a chat, want to get to know me better, or has any questions, feel free to reach out to me! 😊
I'm always looking for new people to interview and introduce to the Umbraco Community so please, feel free to get in touch.
You can find me on twitter (@scottishcoder), on the Umbraco HQ Discord channel or on the Umbraco Community Slack channel.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. 🙂
