A space for the non-code stuff
Over the last few posts I've been thinking out loud about mental health, and about how AI might be creating problems we don't fully understand yet, particularly for junior developers. I've really enjoyed digging into that. But I've also noticed I keep framing everything through a tech lens. This is a coding blog, after all, so that's felt like the rule.
The thing is, I've wanted to write about other things too. Non-code things. Like how bouldering and getting to the gym have done more for my head than almost anything else, and how that's spilled over into how I work. Stuff that isn't really "about" development but it is stuff I would like to share with the world.
I used to have a separate blog for exactly this. I ended up closing it because I wasn't posting often enough to justify keeping two places alive. But rather than let those ideas go nowhere, I've decided to bring them here instead.
How this'll work
To keep things tidy, I'm going to tag posts by type. Anything non-code will be tagged personal, and as you can probably tell from this one, it'll look a little different too, so you always know which kind of post you've landed on.
I did ask a few friends whether I should relaunch the old blog or just fold everything into this one. The unanimous, deeply insightful answer was: "it's your blog, do what you want." So here we are.
Don't worry, it's still mostly code
This place will stay primarily a coding blog. The Umbraco stuff, the development posts, all of it continues as normal. This just gives me somewhere to think out loud about the rest of it, share it with you, and stop feeling like I've appointed myself preacher of All Things Code.
First proper personal post coming soon. In the meantime, I'd like to know what you make of the move, so if you've got thoughts, leave a comment below.
